Collagen Benefits and Why I Drink It

Collagen has become a super popular supplement lately, but what the heck is collagen and why is it important? Short answer: collagen is a protein and a major building block needed for our bodies’ skin, bones, tendons, ligaments, muscles, and blood vessels. When we get older, we naturally produce less collagen. A poor diet, smoking, and exposure to excess sunshine can also contribute to less collagen production. Since being low in collagen can result in all sorts of health issues, including premature aging, poor digestion, and skin, bone, and joint problems, we definitely want to avoid it! And taking a collagen supplement can help.

Some of you may know that I already have Marine Collagen as part of my supplement line, but I want to cover all my bases—that’s why I’ll also be offering Bovine Collagen. Our Bovine Collagen supplement is grass-fed and unflavored, and mixes easily with your beverage of choice—ensuring it’s healthy AND easy to take!

There are a couple of reasons you might want to do our Bovine Collagen instead of our Marine Collagen:

Number one? It’s great if you have a shellfish allergy and therefore CAN’T do Marine Collagen.

Number two? Marine Collagen and Bovine Collagen target slightly different issues, so which collagen would be best for you depends on what you’re dealing with!

Over 20 types of collagen exist in our bodies, each with its own role to play. The main types of collagen are I, II, III, and IV.

Marine Collagen boosts types I and II, which is best for cartilage and skin.

Bovine Collagen, on the other hand, boosts types I and III. Since your skin is primarily made up of these types of collagen, bovine collagen may be best for reducing wrinkles, promoting elasticity, and increasing skin moisture among many other things.

Let’s go over specifically what Bovine Collagen might help you with:

  1. It plumps and hydrates the skin,
  2. It helps heal the gut and support digestion,
  3. It may relieve symptoms of osteoarthritis,
  4. It may decrease visible signs of aging,
  5. And, it may prevent bone loss!

We have a couple of different flavors available so far that mix easily in water and can be enjoyed in hot or cold beverages. Dissolve in room temperature first to dissolve. I personally like to add to iced coffee or make it hot into a healthy hot cocoa.
