I stand at 5’0” and started my journey at 215 lbs. I’ve been overweight as long as I can remember.
I managed to take control and shed some weight in my late teens. At 18 years old, I was about 185 lbs when I started to be mindful of my food portions and picked up weightlifting and HIIT. My new habits resulted in 50 pounds lost in only 6 months! For the first time in my life, I was wearing single digit pant sizes and feeling good about myself. My new look even got me some attention from boys—which is how I unexpectedly got pregnant.
My pregnancy gave me an excuse to eat whatever I wanted and quit working out. By the time I had my son, all the weight I had lost had been gained back. I started working out as soon as I could, but things had changed.
Aside from having a new, tiny, very demanding human, who loved to interrupt my workouts, I learned early just how much my body changed. I wasn’t losing weight as fast I used to, my skin was looser than before, and when I wasn’t getting the results I wanted…I gave up.
Fast forward 5 years and 2 kids later, I was at my heaviest at 215 lbs. I knew I was in that situation because of me and it made me angry. I knew I owed it to myself and my family to get healthy. I went to my doctor for a physical and learned I had high blood pressure and symptoms of early diabetes. At only 25 years old I was on the verge of becoming dependent on medication to keep my body functioning. I refused to let that become my life.
I knew I needed to make changes, but I wanted it to be sustainable changes: habits that I could stick to for the rest of my life.
I started with my eating habits. Realizing I was a binge eater, I knew I couldn’t restrict myself from foods that I loved. If I wanted pizza, I made it myself, on a whole wheat tortilla with low fat cheese and veggies. If I wanted lasagna, I swapped the noodles for zucchini noodles. I even allowed myself to eat fast food, but my burgers were bun-less and my burritos were naked. I learned how to eat intuitively and was mindful of the nutritional value of the foods that were going into my body. Those small changes led to big changes in my body and my lifestyle. I was losing weight and wasn’t overwhelmed with counting calories or tracking macros (I still don’t really understand those. Lol.) The whole foods I was eating gave me the energy I needed to get through my workouts. Before I knew it, I had lost 40 pounds.
It was then that I hit a plateau and knew I had to change things up if I wanted to continue to lose weight. I researched new workouts and also stumbled upon Tiffany’s IG page. Her results are what sold me on the 21 Day Meal Plan!
The plan was just my style: under 20 bucks and full of whole foods!
It opened my eyes to new foods and helped me get creative with incorporating those new foods into recipes. I’m never bored with food and that’s ultimately what makes my journey easier to get through.
I’ve lost an additional 30 pounds using the 21 Day Meal Plan and I’ll continue to use all the tools it’s given me to keep getting the results I’m working toward.
